‘Hate to say it’ – Ex-Arsenal and Chelsea star praises Spurs for Conte appointment

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has praised Tottenham for the appointment of Antonio Conte as the club’s new manager.

The 52-year-old’s appointment was confirmed by Tottenham on Tuesday, in which he has signed an 18-month contract with the option to extend for a further year.

Conte comes in as a replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo, who was relieved of his duties on Monday morning after the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend.

Spurs pursued the ex-Chelsea boss in the summer during their lengthy manager search after Jose Mourinho’s departure, but were not able to secure his services at the time.

However, Spurs have now finally got their man in Conte, which sees him reunited with managing director of football Fabio Paratici after the pair worked together at Juventus.

Fabregas, who played under the Italian for two seasons at Chelsea, could not help but give credit where it was due to Spurs for the appointment, despite the obvious rivalries he has had with the club in the past.
