‘Hate to say it’ – John Terry sends message to Kane after Conte appointment

John Terry has begrudgingly admitted that Tottenham Hotspur have pulled off a major coup by appointing Antonio Conte as head coach.

Spurs announced on Tuesday that Conte would be replacing Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm, with the Italian penning a contract until 2023 with an option of an extension.

In his first interview as Tottenham boss, the 52-year-old declared his intention to make the Lilywhites a team the fans will be proud of and expressed his desire to make this chapter an important part of his managerial career.

Conte delivered Chelsea the Premier League title in his first season in English football in 2016/17, beating out Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs, who finished runners up despite amassing 86 points.

Cesc Fabregas, who was part of that successful Blues squad, took to social media to admit that Spurs had made a great appointment.

His Chelsea teammate Terry has now also praised Tottenham’s decision on social media, with the former Chelsea captain sending a message to Harry Kane in the process.

Commenting on an Instagram post, Terry wrote (via The Daily Mail): “I hate to say it but what a signing this is. The players will love Antonio and his staff. Be ready to go to work Harry Kane.”

The reaction from the likes of Terry and Fabregas shows how big a coup this is for Spurs. I would not be surprised if Levy’s main motivation for hiring Paratici in the summer was to have a shot at bringing Conte in.

The appointment has completely changed the mood of the fan base, who were up in arms just a few days ago. Whatever happens, we are guaranteed to have a fascinating 18 months ahead.
