‘Have a funny feeling’ – Paul Merson predicts top-four race and Golden Boot winner

Paul Merson has backed Tottenham Hotspur to beat Norwich City in their final game of the season on Sunday and believes Son Heung-min will share the Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah.

Tottenham go into the clash at Carrow Road knowing that a point will be enough to seal their place in next season’s Champions League, given their vastly superior goal difference over Arsenal.

Norwich have already been relegated but they have an opportunity to avoid finishing at the rock bottom of the table as they sit a point below Watford heading into the clash.

Merson insisted that despite the Canaries’ struggles this season, they always tend to create plenty of chances.

However, the former Arsenal midfielder added that the expansive style of football that Dean Smith’s side employ could play into Tottenham’s hands.

Merson also backed Son, who is one goal behind Salah, to draw level with the Liverpool man on Sunday.

He told Sportskeeda: “It’s probably a strange thing to say because Norwich are rock bottom and were the first team to suffer relegation, but they always have their moments in football matches.

“They were battered 3-0 by Leicester last time out, but they had a lot of good chances to score in the first half. If they can put away some of the chances they create, there could be a bit of drama, but the way they approach games could play into Tottenham’s hands.

“I’ll only say one thing – if Spurs can’t beat Norwich City on the last day of the season with a place in the Premier League top four at stake, what’s the point of them being in the UEFA Champions League in the first place?

“Son Heung-Min and Mohamed Salah are going head-to-head for the Golden Boot, I have a funny feeling they might end up sharing it!

“As for the Premier League Player of the Season award, I think Kevin De Bruyne would be my pick as he makes a world-class team like Manchester City tick.

“Salah had a great start and it’s probably a bit harsh on him, but hasn’t really set the world alight since the turn of the year. Prediction: Norwich City 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There will be plenty of nerves among Spurs fans until we score the first goal at Carrow Road. If Arsenal take the lead against Everton, that might put some pressure on our players. Hopefully, we can score early in the game to take the edge off.
