‘Have not played’ – Chelsea legend makes a joke at Tottenham’s expense

Joe Cole has joked that Tottenham have not played since the start of the season amidst the club’s flurry of postponed fixtures.

Outbreaks of Covid-19 have been rife throughout the Premier League over the last week, which has started to cause havoc to the intense winter fixture schedule.

Tottenham have been one of the sides heavily affected by the outbreak, which caused the club’s meetings with Rennes, Brighton and Leicester all to be called off.

As such, it has been a while since Spurs played a competitive game, with their last coming on December 5 in the form of a 3-0 win at home to Norwich.

Cole and Jermaine Jenas had been discussing the situation in N17, and couldn’t help but joke about how long Spurs last played a match, with the latter suggesting Antonio Conte’s side have already had a winter break.

It is not clear whether Cole’s response was a joke at the length of the postponements or a dig at Tottenham’s form this season.

Jenas said on BT Sport (December 16, 7:11 pm): “Tottenham have not played a game for as long as I can remember. So they have had a winter break themselves.”

Cole then responded: “Tottenham have not played since the start of the season.”

The situation around the Premier League is concerning, and it has happened just as the problems at Spurs were being controlled. It is not almost two weeks since Spurs’ last games and there will now be problems of where to fit in all of the postponed matches.
