‘He doesn’t care’ – Man United legend sings the praises of one Tottenham star

Peter Schmeichel has labelled Son Heung-min a ‘fantastic’ player and praised the Tottenham captain for the selfless manner in which he plays.

Son’s numbers over his nine years at Tottenham make a persuasive case for why he should be considered one of the greatest players to ever grace the Premier League.

With his goal against Luton Town last Saturday, the South Korean moved up to fifth in Tottenham’s all-time goalscoring charts and he will fancy his chances of joining the likes of Harry Kane and Jimmy Greaves in the 200 club before his time at North London is up.

The numbers alone do not even paint a full picture of Son’s value to the Spurs side, with the forward having a habit of standing up and delivering whenever his team needs him most.

His importance to the Lilywhites has only increased since Ange Postecoglou’s arrival, with the forward forging himself into a leader for his young and relatively inexperienced teammates to look up to.

Peter Schmeichel is a big fan of Heung-min Son

When Schmeichel was asked about Son becoming Tottenham’s fifth highest goalscorer, the Man Utd legend told Premier League Productions (31/03/24 at 11:00 pm): “Fantastic player, isn’t he? He works so hard for the team. He has got pace. Those numbers suggest a little bit of selfishness. He hasn’t got that.

“If he is in a good position and somebody is in a better position, then he will pass the ball. He doesn’t care who scores the goal. He has that ability to find that goal they need or create the chance they need.”

While Son undoubtedly has several more years left in him at the highest level, it is fair to say that the South Korean is closer to the end of his career than the beginning.

It is a privilege to watch him play for Tottenham on a weekly basis and we as Spurs fans need to relish every moment. There is nothing that would make me happier than to see the 31-year-old lifting a trophy as club captain.
