‘He doesn’t care’ – Paul Merson makes Mourinho claim and delivers title prediction

Paul Merson has claimed that Jose Mourinho does not care about playing an entertaining brand of football and will be satisfied as long as Tottenham keep winning games.

Spurs started the season playing free-flowing football and seemed to be scoring for fun but there were a few question marks about them defensively.

Since Tottenham threw away a 3-0 lead against West Ham, there has seemingly been a change in shape, with the side defending in a much more compact manner and committing fewer bodies in attack.

The change has paid dividends with Mourinho’s men winning all four league games since the draw against the Hammers, conceding only one goal in the process.

However, the matches have not been the most entertaining of affairs, with chances being few and far between.

Merson does not believe that will bother Mourinho one bit and believes that the Lilywhites cannot be ruled out of the title race with the Portuguese coach in charge.

The former Arsenal midfielder told Soccer Saturday (21/11/20 at 1:05 pm): “When you always watch Mourinho, the one thing about Chelsea was how do you keep all these players happy?

“How do you keep world-class players happy when he was at Chelsea and they were flying? That is him!

“He doesn’t care about entertaining. All he is worried about is lifting that trophy at the end of the season and whilst he is still there they have every chance [of winning the Premier League title].”
