‘He fits the profile’ – Manager reiterates his interest in Spurs midfielder

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has once again admitted that Steven Bergwijn would fit the profile of the Dutch club.

Ten Hag was speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Ajax‘s Eredivisie clash against NEC tomorrow afternoon when he reiterated that the Dutchman would be a match of the type of player he is looking to recruit.

The 51-year-old made a similar comment about the Tottenham Hotspur winger a couple of weeks ago (Voetbal International).

Bergwijn experienced a difficult campaign in North London last season having found himself failing to hold down a consistent place in the starting eleven which saw him miss out on a place in the Dutch squad for Euro 2020 (transfermarkt).

Ten Hag said: “He [Bergwijn] fits the profile.

“We have a list with a limited number of names on it. That has to do with quality requirements. We are in constant contact with various parties about this. We will see if it will still work before August 31.”

Begwijn has a massive season ahead of him to prove he has what it takes to cut it at Tottenham. Having scored against Manchester City on his debut, he has failed to consistently deliver and now has the opportunity under Nuno to showcase his abilities, or could find himself heading out of the exit come next summer.
