‘He has been on the bench enough’ – Robinson backs midfielder to follow Parrott out on loan

Paul Robinson has believes that Oliver Skipp needs to be playing regular football next season and has urged his former club to loan the midfielder out.

After breaking into the first-team towards the end of the 2018/19 season, Skipp would have expected to play a bigger part in the first-team picture last season that he ended up doing.

However, despite not handing him too many opportunities, Jose Mourinho has spoken highly of the 19-year-old (Football London).

The Spurs boss even admitted recently that the youngster could be allowed to go on loan next season.

Reports indicate that Fulham want to take Skipp on loan after winning promotion to the top flight, with Scott Parker knowing the midfielder well from his time as Spurs Under-18s coach (Evening Standard).

Robinson believes that Skipp, like Parrott, is at an age where he needs to get games under his belt.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Tottenham goalkeeper said: “Skipp needs to play.

“He is of an age now, like Troy Parrott, where he has travelled enough with the squad, he has been on the bench enough.

“The next stage of his development is a decent loan move but it has to be to the right club. It cannot just be a loan for the sake of it. He needs to go on loan to a bottom half Premier League side where he will play week in, week out.

“It would be a valuable experience. Skipp and Parrott are clearly a big part of the future at Spurs but now is the time for them to go out on loan.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Any opportunities that Skipp would have had next season have been further diminished by the arrival of Hojbjerg. I cannot see the midfielder getting too many starts apart from the early stages of the Europa League.

I believe we should ideally loan him out to a championship club for the first half of the season as he needs to play as many games as possible. If he does well, we can then think about a Premier League loan in January.
