‘He has done his job for Tottenham’ – Denmark coach speaks out on Eriksen transfer rumours

Tottenham Hotspur may be forced to invest in a new playmaker this summer, as Christian Eriksen has made his feelings clear on his future.

The Great Dane told the media that he is looking for a new challenge next season, and wants to make a step up from Tottenham (Ekstra Bladet).

Eriksen has just one year remaining on his current deal at Tottenham, meaning that Spurs will not be able to demand the biggest fee for him.

However, they will have to sell up if they want to avoid losing him on a free in the summer of 2020.

Eriksen is currently on duty with his national side, Denmark, where he started against Ireland in a Euro 2020 qualifier tonight.

Despite the speculation surrounding his player, Denmark manager Age Hareide believes that it is important not to talk about club rumours during international camps.

However, he did add that Eriksen has done his job for Tottenham.

He said (Mirror): “I think the best way to recover is to have a good game. If you have a good game after a disappointment you tend to get over it in a quicker way, so I think that is important for him.

“I don’t speak to the players about their club situations. We have a good relationship with the players and it would be a mix-up if I try to talk about that.

“I have to concentrate on the national team. Christian loves to play football and I think his focus is on that. He also loves to play for Denmark and that is the main thing for me.

“He has done well for Tottenham and we had so many special occasions [with him] playing in our side.

“But he has done his job for Tottenham and Denmark, so we have to wait and see what’s happening.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Spurs should sell up any players who do not want to be at the club and invest in up-and-coming stars who are excited to pull on the shirt, simple as that. Maddison and Lo Celso look to be the two favourites in line to replace the Great Dane.
