‘He has got connections’ – Pundit urges Spurs to appoint former Chelsea boss

Trevor Sinclair has claimed that he is surprised Frank Lampard has not been mentioned as a candidate for the vacant Tottenham job.

Tottenham have held discussions with numerous candidates since Jose Mourinho was sacked over two months ago.

With there not being long left until players return for pre-season training, Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici do not have much time to get a new head coach in place.

According to reports, former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is currently the front-runner for the role but the likes of Graham Potter and Steven Gerrard are also rumoured to be in the running.

Sinclair has insisted that the names being mentioned are not of the calibre that Tottenham need and insisted that Lampard could be a good fit for the club.

The pundit pointed at the family connection that the Chelsea legend has with Spurs through Harry and Jamie Redknapp, and defended the work that 43-year-old did at Stamford Bridge.

Sinclair told talkSPORT: “One that I do not think has been mentioned enough, he has got connections to the football club, not so much for himself but through his family is Frank Lampard.

“Because obviously, Harry [Redknapp] has been manager there, Jamie [Redknapp] has played at the football club and he is a London lad.

“Listen he did not do that much wrong at Chelsea with Jody Morris [ex-Chelsea assistant manager] behind him.

“It is a huge club and for me, the managers they have been talking about are not good enough.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There are a whole host of reasons why Lampard to Spurs will never happen, the most important being that he is yet to demonstrate that he is good enough to manage at the top level. Even putting the Chelsea-Spurs rivalry aside (which is of course the main reason this move is not on the cards), Lampard’s next job is not going to be at a top-six club.
