‘He has got one there’ – Pundit claims Conte already has ideal number 10 at Spurs

Tim Sherwood has suggested that Antonio Conte has already got a player who can take up the number 10 role at Tottenham in the form of Dele Alli.

The 25-year-old was one of a number of players left behind over the international break, who worked through an intense series of training sessions with the Italian coach.

Conte is still in the process of fine-tuning his preferred line-up, after the former Inter Milan boss switched to his trusted back-three with wing-backs as well as two holding midfielders.

He has also elected to deploy three forwards made up of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura, which hasn’t left much room for involvement for Alli, who is one of those still fighting his case for a place in a new-look system at Spurs.

The midfielder’s only appearance under the Italian came in the form of a late two-minute cameo in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Leeds United.

However, former Spurs man Sherwood feels forgotten man Alli could eventually be a useful option for Conte, should the tactician look to switch to a formation containing a number ten role.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (1:13 pm, November 20, 2021), Sherwood said: “I think he will go with two upfront, Harry Kane and Son. I think that’s what he likes.

“He needs to find a number 10. He has got one there, someone who was left behind in the international break.

“Dele Alli. Hopefully, Dele has rolled up his sleeves and performed in training and showed Conte what he can do.”

You feel as this is one of Alli’s last chances at Spurs, with Conte being the fourth manager since Mauricio Pochettino that will try to get a tune out of him.

However, Conte looks set on deploying the forward line with Moura and Son on either side of Kane, which again leaves little room for Alli to come in.
