‘He has something better’ – Journalist makes claim about Pochettino to Spurs links

Spanish journalist Anton Meana has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino does not seem interested in the Tottenham or Chelsea job since the Argentine expects Real Madrid to come calling this summer.

Spurs fans have made it clear to the club’s hierarchy that they want Pochettino to return to the club, with chants of ‘Mauricio Pochettino, he’s magic you know’ ringing around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on multiple occasions during the win over Brighton (Football.London).

However, The Athletic reported last week that while the 51-year-old would be ready to return to N17, the Lilywhites have simply not reached out to their former manager.

Journalist Dean Jones also reported something quite similar, telling GiveMeSport a few days ago that Daniel Levy is not as keen on the prospect of re-hiring the Argentine as he once was.

However, Meana has now suggested that it is Pochettino who is having reservations about returning to Spurs rather than the other way around, hinting that the former Tottenham manager is waiting for Los Blancos to come calling.

Meana told Cadena SER: “It would be big news if Ancelotti continued next year and even more so if he doesn’t win the Champions League.

“He knows that his future is up in the air. I think that if Real Madrid had to choose between [Zinedine] Zidane and Ancelotti, they would choose Zidane.

“Pochettino did not want to coach Chelsea or Tottenham because he has something better and that smells bad to Ancelotti.

“Ancelotti knows that they are questioning him, and that is why he has opened the door to Brazil.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is far from clear at the moment if Pochettino would be Real Madrid’s top choice. So, I suspect that the Argentine would be happy to return to Spurs if North London came calling.

Perhaps, Spurs want to wait until the summer to see if they are able to get Nagelsmann before holding any serious conversations with other candidates.
