‘He hasn’t approached me about it yet’ – De Vrij reacts to Spurs transfer links

Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij has reacted to rumours linking him with a move to Tottenham and a reunion with Antonio Conte.

Conte was appointed as the new Spurs manager over a week ago and has already started to implement changes at the club, including reported plans for incoming players.

He has quickly altered Spurs’ system to match the one he deployed at Inter, and it is now expected that he will look to recruit another defender to fully solidify the back three.

De Vrij has been touted as one of the players on the Italian’s list of transfer targets, with a reunion on the cards given their time together at Inter.

The 29-year-old played 66 games across two campaigns under Conte, including a vital role in the back-three as the Nerazzurri romped to the Serie A title last season.

With De Vrij still contracted with Inter for at least another season, a move doesn’t seem all that easy – especially given his reaction to the links of him moving to North London.

When asked to confirm or deny the links to Spurs, he told Sport Nieuws: “Deny! Because I don’t know anything about anything.

“The connection was maybe made a bit quickly because the trainer I have worked with is now working there. But I don’t know anything. He [Antonio Conte] hasn’t approached me about it yet.”

De Vrij has been exposed to Conte’s system and methods before and he seems like a prime target for the club going forward. Although he has denied the links at present, Spurs will likely test the waters for a move in January.
