‘He is a born scorer’ – Roberto Soldado sings the praises of Spurs star Harry Kane

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Roberto Soldado has admitted that Harry Kane’s mentality is the main reason behind the striker’s career success so far.

Spurs paid £26m to sign Soldado from Valencia back in 2013, with the striker being part of ‘the magnificent seven’ the North Londoners brought in with the Gareth Bale money.

Although he came to Tottenham with a reputation as a lethal goal scorer on the back of three excellent seasons at the Mestalla, the Spanish international never quite managed to hit the expected heights at Spurs.

The striker became a bit-part player during his second season at the club, partially due to the explosion of Harry Kane, who grabbed his opportunities with both hands and quickly established himself as one of the club’s most important players.

Soldado left Tottenham that summer and Kane has not looked back since, with the 27-year-old now universally acknowledged as being one of the best strikers in the world.

The Spaniard admitted that he has not been surprised by the England captain’s achievements, having witnessed his rise first-hand.

When asked about Kane, the Granada striker told AS: “A player who was a youth squad. He had very good qualities and when they started giving him minutes he always stood out.

“He was already a scorer. Everything he has achieved is on his own merits and the best thing he has is his winning mentality. He is a born scorer.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is fair to say that Kane was not seen as one of the most talented youngsters in his age group while coming through the ranks at Spurs. The likes of Tom Carroll, Steven Caulker and Andros Townsend were all seen as better prospects than the striker at one time or another. However, Kane kept improving every season and has continued to do so till now. His success shows how hard work and having the right mentality is just as important as talent when it comes to fulfilling one’s potential.
