“He is a player who can become extraordinary” – Transfer target receives high praise

Tottenham have been linked extensively with Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo this summer.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has had an impressive season in the Italian capital following his move from Inter Milan last summer.

Corriere dello Sport reported that Spurs are willing to offer Toby Alderweireld plus cash for Zaniolo.

The left-footer, who can play in either flank as well as through the middle, bagged 4 goals and 2 assists in 27 Serie A appearances last season (Transfermarket).

While those might not seem like big numbers, former Italian footballer Stefano Vecchi is convinced that Zaniolo will go on to have a fantastic career.

The 46-year-old, who now manages Serie C club F.C. Sudtirol, said that the young midfielder is good enough to get into any team.

Speaking to Tutto Mercato Web, Vecchi said: “He is a player who can become extraordinary.

“He can go to Juventus and play for [the first team] and do the same at Tottenham or at Roma.

However, he advised the youngster to stay at Roma, believing that club provides a good environment for him to continue his development.

Vecchi added:, “In the capital, he certainly knows the environment and has a staff [in charge of him] where he can play more than [at] other clubs.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Pochettino chooses to predominantly adopt the 4-3-3 system next season, Spurs will need at least one more wide player to cover for Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min. Given the extensive links we have had with Zaniolo, it looks like this is one of those deals that the club will eventually be able to get over the line.
