‘He is competition’ – Harry Kane gives insight into Richarlison’s start at Spurs

Harry Kane admits that Richarlison has had to be patient since joining Tottenham and praised the forward for the way he has taken opportunities when they have come his way.

Richarlison had been knocking on the door for several weeks by delivering impressive cameos off the bench.

The Brazilian finally got his first start for the Lilywhites against Fulham over the weekend and he certainly delivered, proving to be Tottenham’s most threatening attacker through the 90 minutes against the Cottagers.

The 25-year-old thought he had got on the scoresheet in stoppage time on Saturday but VAR ruled that there was an offside during the build-up.

However, Richarlison did finally get his first goals for the Lilywhites in his Champions League debut against Marseille on Wednesday, with his brace in the second half helping Antonio Conte’s men begin their campaign with a win.

Kane spoke in glowing terms of Richarlison’s headers and admitted that the forward has added a lot more competition for the Spurs frontline.

The 29-year-old told BT Sport’s Live coverage (07/09/22 from 22:00 onwards): “Richy’s been great when he’s come in, trained really hard, waited for his opportunities and played well whenever he’s had them. He’s a real threat and a great couple of headers. For sure, he is competition.”

Richarlison has quickly made himself undroppable with the level of performances that he has produced over recent weeks.

Not only is the Brazilian a goal threat but he has an unbelievable engine and is always harrying the opposition defenders off the ball.

The 25-year-old has also proven to be very effective with his back to goal, which means that Conte now has the luxury of resting Kane for some games.
