‘He is happy’ – Dier reveals he spoke to Dele Alli about move to Besiktas

Eric Dier has revealed that Dele Alli is looking forward to the new challenge at Besiktas and is excited about having a new life experience in Turkey.

It came as a shock to many when Alli completed a loan move to Besiktas during the summer, just seven months on from swapping Spurs for Everton.

Many pundits have speculated on the reasons behind the former Tottenham man’s dramatic decline over the past three years (talkSPORT) while Frank Lampard claimed that he lacks the focus necessary to be successful at the top level (The Mirror).

Dele found the back of the net in just his second outing for Besiktas as they edged out Ankaragucu 3-2 away from home on Sunday, with the former Spurs man Georges-Kevin Nkoudou also netting from the penalty spot.

Dier revealed that he spoke to the England international following his debut for Besiktas against Sivasspor last week and that his former teammate is up happy to have made the switch.

The Tottenham centre-back told The Evening Standard about Alli: “I spoke to him after his first game.

“I think he is happy to have a new challenge, somewhere fresh. I think he is excited by a new experience from a life point of view as well and all I heard were positive things from him.

“He is young. 26. I think we all know in football things can change very quickly for anyone at any time so everything is possible. It is just up to us as individuals.”

The most important thing for Dele is to start enjoying his football again, which he seemingly has not over the past few years.

While the midfielder has age on his side, I doubt we will ever see him back in the Premier League as players who go through such a steep decline almost never climb back up to the top level again.
