‘He is happy here’ – Pochettino on Eriksen and the prospect of a new deal

Tottenham Hotspur fans will be determined for their club and star midfielder to agree terms at some point this season.

Christian Eriksen has entered his final 18 months of his current contract, and it is still unclear whether he will be signing a new deal.

In it’s current state, the contract would force Tottenham to either sell up for a profit this summer, or keep him for an extra year and let him go on a free.

The Great Dane is currently in fine form, scoring four goals in his last six games, and has been part of a high-flying Spurs team this season.

That kind of playmaker and finisher is extremely hard to find, and there are few better than Eriksen at it in world football.

Getting him to pen a new long term deal, along with Toby Alderweireld, should be Tottenham’s main transfer focus this season.

Pochettino has come out in praise of Christian Eriksen, but is promising nothing on the contract front.

Poch said (BBC): “Eriksen is important to Tottenham. You would like this player with you but he has every right to do what he wants.

“It will be fantastic if he will commit to the club for a long-term. He is happy here. He is showing his commitment. It’s not only in our hands.”
