‘He is ready’ – Darren Bent urges Spurs to sign 28-year-old England star

Darren Bent has urged Tottenham Hotspur to replace Hugo Lloris with Everton and England number one Jordan Pickford.

Lloris has made some high-profile mistakes during the first part of the campaign, and several pundits over the last few months have called on Spurs to look beyond the Frenchman (The Telegraph).

Journalist Graeme Bailey told TEAMtalk two weeks ago that Tottenham are planning on replacing the 35-year-old at the end of the season and that Pickford is one of the players on the North London club’s wishlist.

The journalist added that Brighton’s Robert Sanchez and Leeds’ Illan Meslier are the two other alternatives that Antonio Conte’s men are monitoring.

This is not the first time that Pickford has been mooted as a target for Spurs, with 90 min claiming during the summer that Tottenham enquired about the Everton number one while negotiating with the Toffees for Richarlison.

Bent believes that it is time for the Lilywhites to move Lloris on and insisted that Pickford is a readymade replacement.

When asked if Spurs should sign the England number one, the pundit told talkSPORT: “Yeah, why not? Lloris, for me, he is obviously getting on now. Over the age of 30.

“He has started to make one or two more mistakes, so there is no reason why not Jordan Pickford. He is there, he is ready. Why would not take him at Spurs?”

I always felt that Pickford is a much better goalkeeper than he gets credit for as he still has this reputation for being error-prone, even though he has not made too many mistakes over the past few years. However, having said that, I would prefer Spurs to go after the likes of Sanchez and Meslier instead as they would be more long-term options than the Everton man.
