‘He is so good’ – Nuno praises the ‘amazing’ Spurs coach he has in his team

Nuno Espirito Santo has branded Tottenham’s fitness coach Antonio Dias as ‘amazing’ and believes he is a major asset to have as a part of his staff.

The Portuguese mastermind was appointed as the Spurs head coach at the end of June, which saw chairman Daniel Levy bring an end to a long-running search for a new face in the dugout.

As such, Nuno brought along his own members of staff to accompany and assist him on his new adventure in North London.

One of those members is fitness coach Dias, who has spent time alongside Nuno before during his tenures at Portuguese sides Rio Ave and Porto and La Liga club Valencia.

The 38-year-old was also part of the background staff that helped Wolves reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League in the 2019/20 season.

Spurs boss Nuno, speaking to Soccer AM, was asked about his training methods and what the thinking was behind the competitive shooting drills he deploys during sessions.

He responded by saying: “That comes from Antonio [Dias]. He’s amazing. He is so good. He is always trying. Even in his fitness work, always trying to find things related to the game.

“The game has contact. There is holding, so if you can promote that in a warm-up then you are upgrading what is coming up in the session in front of you, relating to the game.

“Of course, they have a laugh, because you work so much better if you have a smile on your face and you are happy.”

Dias has a tough job of keeping the players fit and conditioned well, especially after a rough couple of seasons where they have looked jaded.

Hopefully, the competitive aspect of his drills will ensure that happens which will keep the players going for a longer length of time.
