‘He is so loved in the dressing room’ – Jan Vertonghen on Spurs teammate

Tottenham Hotspur continued their fine run of results by smashing three past German League leaders Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League this week.

Before this amazing European performance, Spurs had won their previous four Premier League ties, propelling them well into the race for the Premier League.

All of this without main man Harry Kane and England midfielder Dele Alli, after many thought they would struggle to score goals without two key attacking threats.

However, Heung Min Son has stepped up in a big way in the absence of his striking teammates, scoring a goal in each of his games since returning from the Asia Cup.

His volley against Dortmund made it 11 goals from 11 games since December 19 for the South Korean, with five assists to boot.

It’s one thing to boast outrageous stats, but it’s another thing to be loved and adored by your teammates and fans alike, and Sonny has certainly achieved that.

Here’s what Jan Vertonghen had to say about his friend (Telegraph): “I have played with some great players and against some great players, and Sonny is special.

“He is so humble and I think you underestimate that because of the work he puts in. Then his quality – outstanding left foot, right foot. He can play striker, left wing, right wing, he can play as a 10, he played as a wing back. He’s an outstanding player. I am not going to say he is at the level of whoever, but he’s one of the best in the Premier League.

“I have seen him stop smiling – I’m not going to say when! But no, he’s a very happy guy. He’s so loved in the dressing room. He gets on with everyone and you can see why, he’s a great player to have around.”
