‘He just loves it’ – Mourinho reveals how Ledley King is developing as a coach

Back in August 2020, Tottenham officially announced that Ledley King had joined Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff at the club, moving from his ambassador role.

It was revealed that King would work alongside the other coaches and analysts at Hotspur Way and on matchdays, as well as supporting academy players during their transitions into the first-team.

The Spurs legend has now been a coach for around six months and Mourinho seems to be pleased with his development during that time.

The one-club man played in the Premier League across 14 seasons for Tottenham, racking up 323 appearances and 14 goals during that time. Unfortunately, he had to call time on his career due to long-term injury problems.

Mourinho has now revealed that he is happy with both the man and the coach, claiming that King is eager to learn and develop in his new role at Tottenham. He also added that Ledley is just a nice guy all around.

Mourinho said (Football London): “It is the beginning for him.

“When he stopped playing football his career went in another direction, it didn’t go to the coaching side, it went in different areas so he was not developing as a coach. It was the beginning, he never had that chance.

“I am happy with the man, and I am happy with the coach and I couldn’t be more happy with the opportunity we gave him, he just loves it, he wants to learn, he feels he wants to develop, I am very happy with Ledley and all my other assistants like to work with him because he is such a nice guy.”
