‘He looks different’ – Ryan Mason says Spurs starlet has physically grown

Ryan Mason has been discussing the progress of Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dane Scarlett after a season-long loan with Portsmouth.

Scarlett is widely regarded as one of the most exciting prospects at Tottenham.

By the age of 18, the striker had already amassed ten first-team appearances for the Lilywhites, although most of them are as a substitute and he is yet to score for the club (Transfermarkt).

He was given the opportunity to gain some real first-team experience with Portsmouth this year in League One, and has certainly done just that.

With 40 appearances and six goals in all competitions (Transfermarkt), Dane Scarlett has impressed many with his displays in the third tier of English football this term, though some would have hoped he could have contributed more goals.

Scarlett’s work is done at Portsmouth, with the League One season over for the South Coast club. The England youth international will now be looking ahead to his future with Spurs.

Speaking to the Irish Times, Mason commented on Scarlett’s development and had plenty of positive things to say.

Ryan Mason said: “I have seen Dane in the last week or so since he came back and he looks different from a physical point of view.

“You can feel that he has played men’s football so from that point of view I am sure he is in a better place than he was 12 months ago.

“But at the same time, going into an Under-20 World Cup, it is a great opportunity for him and probably a different style and different type of football he will come up against.

“I am sure he will go into that challenge full of confidence.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m sure Dane Scarlett would have wanted more goals this season for Portsmouth, but he has played well and now has such invaluable experience under his belt.

I would imagine he will go out on loan again next season and I’m excited to see what he does.
