‘He loves to win’ – Heurelho Gomes thinks one Spurs star can still get ‘even better’

Richarlison finally appears to have found his feet at Tottenham Hotspur this season, but former Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes believes the Brazilian striker can keep improving at the club and get even better.

After struggling in his debut campaign with Tottenham, Richarlison kicked into gear this term, and now has 11 goals and three assists to his name in the 2023/24 season (Transfermarkt).

In the absence of Harry Kane, Richarlison has proven to be a reliable presence in the number 9 role at Spurs. Along with Heung-min Son, the 26-year-old has been the main source of goals for the Lilywhites.

That output from Richarlison included a run of nine goals in eight games at the start of 2024, and he will be hoping to add to his tally before the season is out.

Richarlison has more to give

However, we should definitely expect more from Richarlison, according to his compatriot Heurelho Gomes, who claims the striker has a lot more to give.

Speaking to Chris Cowlin, Gomes said: “I’m not surprised of his current form. I wasn’t surprised the way he was playing. I wasn’t surprised because I know he was going through a few problems so that’s why he was performing that way.

“He was so disappointed as well but I think now, this is the proper Richarlison. We didn’t see the best of him yet. He will perform even better. Especially now that his confidence is back. I hope he can come back [from injury] stronger. He wants to win and he loves to win, and he gives his all on the pitch.”

I really hope Richarlison’s latest injury hasn’t taken anything away from his game, and that we will once again get to see a return to that form he showed earlier this year very soon.
