‘He should’ – Alan Shearer jokes about Kane’s missed penalty against Forest

Alan Shearer has joked that Tottenham should take Harry Kane off penalty duties after the striker failed to convert a spot kick against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Spurs were handed a penalty when Steve Cook handled the ball in the 54th minute in an effort to stop Kane from getting on the end of a cross.

However, the Tottenham man’s strike from twelve yards was saved by his England teammate Dean Henderson. It was the first time in 22 attempts that the striker had failed to convert from the spot (Jonathan Veal).

The miss did not prove too costly as the away side emerged 2-0 winners, with Kane getting both of Tottenham’s goals.

The striker’s brace brought his goal tally in the Premier League to 187 goals, with the Spurs star now tied with Andy Cole at third place.

Kane has his sights set on chasing down Shearer’s record tally of 260 and the Newcastle legend has joked that the 29-year-old should not take any more penalties.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am surprised that so many people seem to think that Kane will run Shearer’s record close. I believe that the Tottenham man will absolutely obliterate it and perhaps even finish with over 300 Premier League goals.

That is because I fully expect Kane to continue playing till his later thirties, given how well he takes care of his body and the fact that he is not reliant on his pace or athleticism.
