‘He showed at Tottenham’ – West Ham player praises ‘quality’ 30-year-old star

Michail Antonio has praised Christian Eriksen for returning to football and says the midfielder is quickly starting to demonstrate the quality he showed during his time at Tottenham.

Eriksen joined Brentford on a short-term deal in January to mark his sensational return to action after suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 last summer.

The 30-year-old secured his first starting berth for the Bees last weekend against Norwich and ran the show as Thomas Frank’s side claimed a vital three points in a 3-1 win at Carrow Road.

Having clocked up just 128 minutes of competitive action in a number of months (Transfermarkt), Eriksen’s display seemingly left a good impression on West Ham’s Antonio.

The Hammers striker has hailed the Dane’s perseverance to keep playing when he could have easily retired and feels he is already showing the quality he displayed for so many years at Tottenham.

Antonio told The Footballer’s Football Podcast: “He’s back out there enjoying his football. He could easily have retired because of the situation he’s had, but he loves football and he loves to play, and that’s what he’s done.

“He’s gone to Brentford and he’s trying to show that he’s got the quality that he’s always had.

“The quality that he showed at Tottenham and why he got his move to Inter Milan. That’s what he’s trying to do, to work his way back into the league and pick up where he left off.”

Eriksen spent over six years at Spurs, where he recorded an impressive 69 goals and 90 assists in over 300 games for the club (Transfermarkt).

Upon leaving North London to join Inter Milan in January 2020, he linked up with current Spurs head coach Antonio Conte and helped the Nerazzurri claim last season’s Serie A title.

Conte hinted in a press conference this season that an Eriksen return to Tottenham could be a good opportunity for all involved (Sky Sports).

Eriksen’s return to football itself is so impressive and the fact he is still managing to show his quality is a great story.

He is likely going to be experiencing a different environment, though, with Brentford hovering above the Premier League relegation zone but players of his calibre can make all the difference.
