Rumoured Tottenham target Jordan Veretout will stay at AS Roma until the end of the season, the midfielder’s agent Mario Giuffredi has confirmed.
Veretout has been a consistent performer in the middle of the park for Roma over the past three years but there have been murmurs over recent days that his time at the Stadio Olimpico might be about to come to an end.
The print edition of Tuttosport (as relayed by Sport Witness) revealed on Wednesday that the midfielder was on Tottenham’s radar and that the North London club could look to make a move for him before the transfer window shuts.
Il Messaggero then revealed that former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho sees the French international as being expendable amidst Tottenham’s interest in the midfielder.
The report further suggested that the 28-year-old’s agent was trying to find his client a new club.
Gianluca Di Marzio even floated the possibility of Tottenham and Roma completing a Tanguy Ndombele-Veretout swap deal.
However, Veretout’s agent has now insisted that no such swap deal is on the cards and that the former Aston Villa man will stay with the Giallorossi until the summer.
Giuffredi told Calciomercato.it: “Exchange Veretout-Ndombele? I categorically deny, he stays with Roma at least until the end of the season.”
When asked about Mourinho, Veretout’s agent responded: “Mourinho is the Special One, a man of the highest level”.
Spurs Web Opinion
Despite the various reports from Italy over the last week, I was never convinced that there was concrete interest from Tottenham in Veretout. The Frenchman is not the profile of midfielder that Spurs need and he would not improve our starting eleven.
