‘He wants a change of scenery’- Manager makes admission about rumoured Spurs target

Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso has admitted that the club will find it difficult to hold on to rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Arkadiusz Milik with striker said to want a new challenge.

Tottenham were keen to bolster their attacking options during the January transfer window following Harry Kane’s hamstring injury, but were unable to land any of their targets (AS).

Milik certainly fits the bill as aa target man with the Polish international’s ability to hold the ball up and bring others in to play, possibly complementing Kane’s attributes.

Reports suggest that Tottenham’s interest in the 26-year-old is serious, with the North Londoners and Juventus both having launched offers for the striker (SportItalia via Area Napoli).

There have even been reports that Spurs are prepared to include Lucas Moura in a deal for Milik, with Napoli said to be interested in the Brazilian (Daily Mail).

Gattuso has now confirmed that the Serie A giants will respect the striker’s wishes and allow him to leave the San Paolo Stadium.

The Napoli boss told Sky Italia: “It’s difficult to find someone better than Milik.

“However, when a player believes his time at a club is over and he wants a change of scenery, you have to listen to him.

“You can’t try to keep someone against their will, or it’s difficult to get them to listen or have the right mentality. You have to respect the wishes of the player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Among the strikers Spurs could realistically get this summer, I suspect Mourinho would prefer Milik. He would take some of the goalscoring burden off Harry Kane’s shoulders and will get plenty of game time, potentially playing alongside Kane on certain occasions.

However, it seems clear from reports that Juventus are interested in signing him as Gonzalo Higuain’s replacement. Milik would likely want to go to the Serie A champions as he could be first-choice there next season.
