‘He was massive’ – Some fans praise typically unsung player after Villa win

Some Spurs fans were delighted with Ben Davies’ contribution in the 3-2 win over Aston Villa on his return from injury.

The left back has been on the sidelines since Jose Mourinho’s first game in charge of Tottenham against West Ham back in November after suffering ankle ligament damage.

Mourinho decided to throw the Welshman straight into the starting eleven against Villa despite Japhet Tanganga’s impressive recent displays.

Davies certainly didn’t disappoint as he put in a typically assured display at left-back and arguably was the most solid out of the back four on Sunday.  The Neath-born player was involved in one of the key moments of the game when he took up a brilliant defensive position to stop Villa from going 2-0 ahead to clear off his own line with Hugo Lloris beaten.

The experienced defender’s return could not have come at a better time for Spurs with some big matches coming up in the Premier League, Champions League and the FA Cup in the next few weeks.

Some fans were delighted to see Davies back in action after being out of action for almost three months.

Here’s how they reacted to his performance on Sunday:

Spurs Web Opinion

Having Davies back is a huge plus going into the business end of the season as he offers Jose Mourinho more options at the back. While it might have been harsh on Tanganga to drop him against Villa, Davies fits the role required of a left-back in Mourinho’s hybrid back three/back four system perfectly, and so I expect him to be a regular in the side when fit.
