Nuno Espirito Santo revealed following Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday that Harry Kane will be available for selection once the striker is fully integrated into the squad.
Kane was not named in the matchday squad by Nuno for his first competitive game in charge of Tottenham and the likes of Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura certainly stepped up in the England captain’s absence as the North Londoners came away with a deserving win.
Spurs fans certainly made their feelings clear to the 28-year-old by chanting: “Are you watching Harry Kane?” during the second half of the encounter.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed there is currently no dialogue between Tottenham and City regarding the England captain and the striker is keen to make himself available for the Europa Conference League playoff against Pacos de Ferreira on Thursday.
When asked if he expects Kane to be involved next week, Nuno said in his post-match press conference (as relayed by Football.London): “Harry, Like Bryan, Cristian Romero, they joined us later.
“For Cristian and Bryan, it was very important to be here today. To feel the atmosphere and be in the stadium and be in the hotel, attending the meeting, but knowing they don’t have too many sessions with us.
“Harry worked this morning, he is preparing himself and when he is ready he will join the group and help the team.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Nuno has handled the Kane situation very well by choosing to toe the company line. While we as fans would always like the managers to be more open in press conferences, I am actually quite glad to have someone giving standard responses after watching Mourinho air all our dirty laundry in public for a year and a half.
