‘He will leave the club if…’ – Ex-Spurs legend on Christian Eriksen

Tottenham Hotspur managed to hold onto every single big name in their squad in the summer, including Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele and Danny Rose, who were all tipped to leave the club.

Despite this, Spurs still have a number of first team stars entering the twilight zones of their respective contracts in North London.

Alderweireld, Dembele and Jan Vertonghen are all in their final year, with Christian Eriksen having under two years left on his current deal.

Eriksen is out on contract in 2020, and Spurs fans will be praying that he signs a new deal this year.

Not only would they lose a quality player, but also the well over £100m price tag that comes with the Great Dane.

Tottenham will have to invest a lot of money if they want to tie down a number of these stars to new contracts.

Former Tottenham legend Chris Waddle believes it is crucial for Spurs to do this.

He told SportingBet: “Eriksen is reaching superstar status and there’s no surprise to read reports of Real Madrid and Barcelona being interested.

“Eriksen’s agents will have asked Tottenham for more money and he will leave if the club don’t give him it.

“Real Madrid and Barcelona would jump at offering him those terms so the ball is in Tottenham’s court.

“This is where Daniel Levy decides what type of club he wants Tottenham to be and where he wants them to go.

“It would be a massive statement to give Eriksen a new deal, but would also be a big red flag if they don’t.

“It would be a fantastic move if he signed a new deal, but money will talk loudest.”
