‘He will score goals’ – Ray Parlour admits Spurs are more likely to sign striker than Arsenal

According to Arsenal legend Ray Parlour, his former club will likely pass on the signing of Ivan Toney, while Tottenham Hotspur will push on and secure the signature of the Brentford man.

Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a new striker this summer, after enduring a season without a consistent frontman since the departure of Harry Kane last year.

While Heung-min Son and Richarlison have plugged the gap and have chipped in with a solid number of goals this season, Spurs are clearly lacking a number 9 to lead the line.

It seems Ivan Toney could be the answer to that problem. Apparently, the Lilywhites are ready to ‘test the water’ with a £45m bid for the Brentford striker (GiveMeSport).

But, according to 90Min, Manchester United are also keen on the 27-year-old as they look to add a number 9 to their ranks this summer.

Spurs could beat Arsenal to Ivan Toney

Arsenal have also been mentioned in conjunction with Toney, but Ray Parlour thinks the Gunners wouldn’t be the right fit, and suggests Tottenham will be the more likely destination for the Brentford star.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast (29/04/24 at 9:25 am): “The price bracket is going to be interesting, there is a lot of talk about £60-80 million, which I think is a little bit too much money. Now, Brentford have said ‘no, we are going to cut it down to £40 million’ and that’s more of a reasonable price you are going to pay for Ivan Toney.

“I do believe if he does go to a club, he will score goals. He is a great penalty-taker as well. I don’t think he fits into Arsenal and what they want to try and do. I don’t think he will go to Arsenal.

“Spurs will probably be in the hunt for him. That’s the sort of club he maybe goes to, who can bang you a goal in, after they lost Harry Kane.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I don’t really want us to sign Ivan Toney, to be honest. He’s a good goalscorer, but his attitude feels really off to me, and I just cannot see Postecoglou wanting a player like that in his dressing room at all.
