‘He will win again’- AVB insists Mourinho is still among the best

Andre Villas-Boas was labelled as Jose Mourinho’s prodigy after being given the opportunity in the game by his compatriot (Goal).

Villas-Boas mirrored Mourinho’s success at Porto which ended earned him a move to Chelsea.

However, he failed to match Mourinho’s exploits at Stamford Bridge and found himself out of work after less than a year in charge (BBC).

He was subsequently appointed by Daniel Levy at Tottenham and things initially went well at White Hart Lane for Villas-Boas.

However, the team went downhill after Gareth Bale was sold at the end of his first season in charge and he was sacked halfway through his second season following a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool saw them drop to seventh in the Premier League table (BBC).

Since then, he has had successful spells at Zenit Saint Petersburg and Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG and is now in charge at Marseille.

With Mourinho having also suffered an indifferent start to life in North London, Villas-Boas has leapt to the defence of the Tottenham head coach and insisted that the 57-year-old is still one of the best around.

Speaking to Power Sportz, the former Tottenham boss said: “Jose is a top manager. It is his style. You may like him or not, but he gives success to the team that signs him immediately.

“I think it’s been like that in all the clubs he’s been to. Immediate success, immediate victories… The number of trophies he’s won speaks for itself.

“Wherever he goes, he will win again. He is explosive, but he always generates results. He went to Manchester United and won three titles. He’s still one of the best.”

Spurs Web Opinion

A lot of people, including some Spurs fans, have already written Mourinho off at Spurs despite him taking over the team when they were in a dire situation. He clearly hasn’t been helped by the injury situation and the fixture pile-up either. I expect us to be a completely different kettle of fish next season after the 57-year-old has had a preseason to work with the team.
