‘He will win trophies’ – Former Spurs defender urges fans give Mourinho time

Former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson is confident that Jose Mourinho will deliver trophies in North London if he is given time.

Mourinho’s record at Spurs has been fairly mixed since his arrival in November, although his cause has not been helped by the injury crisis that the team suffered before the lockdown.

Tottenham’s form significantly improved after the restart as they lost just once in their final nine matches of the campaign and managed to sneak into sixth place.

That ensured that the Lilywhites booked a place in next season’s Europa League, a competition that Mourinho has already declared that he wants to win (Football.London).

Dawson, who was part of the last Spurs team to win a major trophy (2008 Carling Cup), believes that the Portuguese coach is the right man to bring silverware to the club.

When asked about the team’s recent struggles, the centre-back told the Last Word On Spurs podcast: “Yes it’s been a backwards step over the last 12 months. However, give Jose time.

“His record speaks for itself, he will win trophies. He’s won trophies wherever he’s been sometimes its in a different way and different to the free-flowing that Mauricio [Pochettino] had. Look they’ve got some unbelievable players.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Many neutrals, pundits and even a few Spurs fans seem to have already written Mourinho off because they feel football has moved on from his methods. However, he certainly has shown in the past that he has the ability to adapt. While it is unlikely that Jose will likely stay at Spurs for too long, I would not put it beyond him to win a few trophies with us.
