‘He would be delighted’ – Bryan Gil’s former teammate wants them to reunite on loan in Spain

Almeria defender Alejandro Pozo has admitted he would like to be reunited with Bryan Gil and hopes to persuade the Tottenham winger into leaving the club on loan.

Pozo, currently out on loan from Sevilla, is a former teammate of Gil, who joined Spurs from the Spanish side last summer.

The pair have also spent some time out on loan together, with both playing for Eibar during the 2020/21 campaign.

Since Gil’s move to North London, his use has been measured, with the 20-year-old still waiting to secure his first Premier League start having made 8 appearances in the competition.

Due to the young Spaniard’s lack of minutes for Spurs, Pozo believes Gil could soon secure a loan move to gain more opportunities to bolster his confidence.

In an interview with Estadio Deportivo, he said: “You always have another team that gives you confidence, as has happened to me, and Bryan has now signed Tottenham.

“Although now he is not playing minutes but hey, he will go out on loan and will play and feel like a footballer [again]. That’s what us young players need – to feel like footballers and play minutes.”

With Pozo’s confidence of Gil landing a short-term move away from Spurs, he was also quizzed on the prospect of playing together at Almeria and whether he could persuade him to join the LaLiga 2 side.

He added: “Hopefully, hopefully (laughing). If I can do whatever I can, I will do it, of course. He’s a great footballer and I get on great with him.

“I already tell you that he would be delighted, because Andalusia is Andalusia. At the end of the day, it is our land and it is different for us.”

Gil is still young and obviously needs time to adapt to new surroundings and a completely different style of football. Some time adapting to the club will need to happen this season, but if he doesn’t secure a more regular spot in the side, then we could see a loan at some point in the near future.
