Tottenham Hotspur’s acquisition of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton has turned out to be one of the best deals of the summer transfer window.
The Dane has slotted in seamlessly in the base of Spurs’ midfield and has made Jose Mourinho’s men a much more resolute outfit.
Glenn Hoddle has now advised Tottenham to raid Southampton once again in January for Hojbjerg’s former midfield partner, James Ward-Prowse.
Ward-Prowse has taken up even more responsibility for Saints since the departure of Hojbjerg in the summer and has been a key reason behind the impressive start Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side have made to their campaign.
The 26-year-old has also been a regular in the last few England squads and on current form has a good chance of being called up by Gareth Southgate for the Euros in the summer.
Hoddle believes that the midfielder is now ready to make the step up to a big club and insisted that he would be a major asset for the Lilywhites.
The former midfielder said on The Glenn Hoddle Footy Show Podcast: “I think his (Ward-Prowse) all-round game has come on leaps and bounds, but as a set piece artist there is no-one better.
“He’d be a major asset for Tottenham, for instance. Or he could go and play in Everton’s team tomorrow.
“Whether he has the mentality, you don’t know until he goes to a big club. But he’s been in and around the England squad and I think he’s growing as a player.”

It appeared as if Ward-Prowse’s development had plateaued a couple of years ago but the midfielder has taken his game to a new level in recent times and finally seems to be living up to his potential. He would certainly be an upgrade on Harry Winks if were we to sign him.
