Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the Manchester United and Manchester City jobs over recent months (Daily Mirror), one year after leaving Spurs.
However, if The Athletic’s David Ornstein is to be believed, the former Tottenham manager is not particularly close to taking over at any club and is waiting patiently for the right opportunity to open up.
Some Spurs fans would not be too enthusiastic about the prospect of Pochettino taking over at a Premier League rival given how highly they still regard him but there is one position that many feel would be perfect for the 48-year-old – the England managerial role.
It is fair to say that ever since the Three Lions’ fantastic showing in the 2018 World Cup, Gareth Southgate’s stock has been falling steadily.
On Sunday, England’s hopes of making it to the Nations League finals were ended by a 2-0 loss to Belgium, with Southgate’s defensive tactics being scrutinised after the defeat.
Some Spurs fans on social media have implored the FA to give Pochettino the job as they feel the Argentine would work wonders with the current squad Southgate has at his disposal.
Poch for the England job 👍#SouthgateOut

Kane & Grealish should be starting every competitive game for England, build the rest of the team around them.
Oh and sack Southgate and replace him with Poch #England

I'd love to see Poch as England manager
Either way that formation needs to be 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 going forward..— Spurz (@Spursylad10) November 15, 2020

Spurs Web Opinion
Despite the fans turning on Southgate, he is likely to last at least until the Euros next summer. There will be no point sacking him before then as any new manager who comes in will not have enough games to prepare for the tournament. Besides, given how high Pochettino’s stock is at the moment, there is no chance that he would accept the England job. I still believe that the Man Utd job is the one he has his eye on as he knows that things could change for Solskjaer with a couple of bad results.
