‘He’ll be in no rush’ – Former striker gives his verdict on Harry Kane’s future at Spurs

Ex-Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Harry Kane will be in no rush to make a decision over his long-term future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane will see his current contract expire in 2024, with Bayern Munich having been in the headlines recently following Oliver Kahn’s comments about a potential future move for the England captain.

Football.London reported earlier this week that Kane is open to the prospect of discussing a new contract at Tottenham having been pleased with the

Agbonlahor believes that Kane will wait and see how Conte’s team fares across all competition mid-way through this campaign before deciding whether to pen a new deal or not. The former striker claims the Tottenham talisman will want to see whether the new project proves to be a success or not before making a decision.

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor said: “I don’t think he [Kane] will be in a rush. I think he’ll wait until midway through the season, wait and see how the season is going.”

“If they’re in the knockout stages of the Champions League, in the top-three, if they are still in the EFL Cup and FA Cup he might look at it and think ‘This club is going in the right direction, I will commit my future’. He’ll be in no rush to do that, to be honest.”

It will make sense if Kane feels that he still has time left before committing to his long-term future in N17. That is especially the case when the England international still has around two years left in his current contract. Not to mention, he may probably not want to enter in such talks with the World Cup coming over on the horizon.

Furthermore, Conte’s one-year contract could be a factor that could influence Kane’s decision. Fabio Paratici and co can extend the deal by another season if the boss agrees to the renewal (Football.London). Fortunately, that may not be an issue, as the Italian coach has already revealed his intention to stay for longer if the club continues to support him in this manner.

However, it would be best if we plan an offensive after the World Cup amid the links with the likes of Bayern. The 28-year-old is an integral part of Conte’s plans, and losing him would not sit right with the manager, considering how he wants the centre-forward to stay with him in the future.

Perhaps Tottenham should address the lack of depth in midfield and central defence to give them the best chance of ensuring that they would remain across all competitions. That is a serious possibility even with the current squad if we can continue from where it was left off last season.
