‘Helped us brutally’ – RB Leipzig star explains why Werner will be a big loss in the dressing room

RB Leipzig left-back David Raum has admitted that losing Timo Werner is a blow to the club, particularly given how influential the German was in the changing room.

Werner had an impressive season following his return to Leipzig from Chelsea 18 months ago, finishing the 2022-23 campaign with 16 goals and six assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

However, the German international had fallen down Marco Rose’s pecking order this season and had found game time hard to come by, having made just eight Bundesliga appearances in the first half of this season.

The 27-year-old will be hoping to get regular game time for Tottenham over the next six months and potentially force himself into Germany’s squad for Euro 2024.

The forward has made a bright start to his spell at Spurs, having provided an assist in his first outing with the Lilywhites against Manchester United.

Timo Werner will be missed at RB Leipzig

Raum, who had developed a good understanding with Werner down the Leipzig left, admitted that the striker would be missed by the German side.

The defender told Sport 1 about Werner’s switch to Tottenham: “He hasn’t had an easy season. He also had his injuries last season, which of course also comes into play,

“But he still helped us brutally again and again. He was there for everyone, looked after everyone and put everyone in a good mood. That’s why it’s a big loss for the team.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Whatever one thinks of Werner’s qualities as a footballer, it is clear that he is a great guy and a teammate, with everyone having only good things to say about the forward.

He will undoubtedly be a positive addition to the Tottenham changing room and does not seem like the sort of character who would sulk even if things are not going to plan for him.
