‘Here-we-go confirmed’ – Fabrizio Romano claims Spurs complete paperwork for target

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur have completed the agreement to sign Barcelona defender Emerson Royal.

It is suggested that the necessary paperwork between the two clubs was signed during the night ahead of the announcement behind made today following the necessary medicals.

Emerson will reportedly cost a €30m (£25.7m) fee which includes add-ons with Real Betis set to net €5m of the deal (£4.2m). The player will sign a five-year contract in North London.

The Catalan giants excercised their right to bring the 22-year-old back to the Nou Camp this summer, after spending the last two seasons on loan at Betis.

Emerson had spent time at Betis as part of a three-way agreement following his move from Atletico Mineiro in January 2019.

Last season he helped Betis, who are coached by former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini to a sixth place finish in La Liga and a place in the Europa League.

With Serge Aurier hopefully heading out of the door today, it will create space for Emerson to join the squad as a non-homegrown player.

Emerson’s strengths lie more in an attacking wing-back role and possesses pace on the right side which we have been lacking since the departure of Kyle Walker.
