Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to confirm that Tottenham Hotspur have had a bid accepted by Atalanta for Cristian Romero.
The bid was reported to have been €50million, with a further €5million in add-ons. The Italian outfit are closing on on a deal that will see them replace Romero with Juventus’ Merih Demiral on a loan deal which includes the option to make the deal permanent for around €30million.
Spurs’ new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici stepped up talks to bring the 23-year-old to North London and will become the second player to arrive from Atalanta, following in the footsteps of goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini (Sky Sports).
The centre back scored three goals and made five assists in 42 appearances in all competitions during the last campaign and his impressive performances saw him crowned Serie A’s ‘Defender of the Season’ (transfermarkt).
Last month, Tottenham sold experienced central defender Toby Alderweireld after six years at the club.
