Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Lucas Moura has sealed a return to his boyhood club Sao Paulo.
Moura signed for Spurs from PSG back in 2018 and went on to make 221 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring 39 goals and registering 27 assists during his time in North London (Transfermarkt).
The winger’s five-and-a-half-year spell at Tottenham came to an end when his contract ran out at the end of last season, and it ended in fairytale fashion, with the 30-year-old finding the back of the net with his final kick of the ball in a Spurs shirt in the 4-1 win at Elland Road.
Brazilian news outlet UOL reported last week that Sao Paulo were hoping to land Moura on a short-term contract but it was explained that the player was also reviewing approaches from Major League Soccer and from the Middle East.

If Romano’s latest update is to be believed, Moura has put pen to paper on a contract with his boyhood club until the end of the calendar year. The journalist claimed that an official announcement from Sao Paulo is expected to arrive soon.

I am surprised by this development as I expected Moura to get offers from some of Europe’s top leagues, given that he is available on a free transfer.
The fact that he has signed a short-term contract suggests that the winger might indeed be angling for a return to Europe if he can prove his fitness at Sao Paulo over the next six months.
