‘He’s a fighter’ – Ligue 1 player tips Spurs star to have ‘big season’ next year

OGC Nice defender Dante believes that Richarlison’s struggles this season are partly down to the turmoil at Tottenham, with the centre-back backing the forward to turn his Spurs career around.

When Spurs paid £60m to snap up Richarlison from Everton last summer, it was seen by many as a statement signing, with the Brazilian expected to add even more goals to an already potent frontline.

However, things have not gone according to plan for the 26-year-old in his first season in North London as he has suffered multiple injuries and has struggled to build any momentum, having started just a third of the club’s Premier League matches this campaign (Transfermarkt).

Richarlison has only found the back of the net once in the league this campaign and has been labelled by some pundits as the flop of the season (talkSPORT).

There have even been some suggestions over recent weeks that the forward could exit Spurs this summer, just a year on from signing for the club (Il Romanista).

However, Dante has labelled Richarlison ‘a fighter’ and backed him to come good at Tottenham next season.

When asked if the striker can make a difference for the Lilywhites, the Brazil international told Walfoot: “Yes of course. But I think sometimes it’s not easy to go from a team that plays a certain way to another.

“Tottenham have had problems this season, Conte’s departure proved that.

“It’s not easy, especially for the forwards. Behind them, it’s easier to show off. In front, you have to adapt to new colleagues, it’s not always easy.

“But Richarlison is someone with a lot of heart, he’s a fighter, he has personality. I think next season he can have a big season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite the difficult seasons Richarlison and Bissouma have had, I have no doubts about either player and remain confident that they will thrive in the right system.

Both those players could essentially be like new signings for Spurs next season as they have proven their quality in the Premier League over the years.
