‘He’s a great boy’ – Cristian Romero wants nothing but good things for Spurs teammate

Cristian Romero has admitted that Richarlison went through a hard time a few months ago but insisted that his Tottenham teammate is now in a much better frame of mind.

While Richarlison had been open about his mental health struggles previously, it came as a bit of a shock to many when the striker spoke during the recent international break about the breadth of the issues he was dealing with.

In an interview with ESPN Brasil last week, the 26-year-old confessed that he suffered from depression following Brazil’s World Cup campaign in Qatar. The forward admitted that he struggled to get himself to training on a regular basis and that he had even considered calling time on his career.

The former Everton man revealed that seeking therapy had proven a transformative experience for him and called on others to seek professional help if they are struggling.

Cristian Romero sends support to Richarlison

Romero has now revealed that Richarlison is now in a much happier place than he was and admitted that he is hopeful that the striker has put his troubles behind him.

When asked about the Brazilain’s recent admission, the centre-back told Ole: “I know he had a bad time, we talk all the time. I know he didn’t have the best time, he had some personal problems, but the important thing is that he is well, happy.

“I see him very well, he had suffered an injury, he is coming back little by little and for us, he is a very important player. Until he got injured, he was in the best way, at a great level.

“I want him to be fine, he’s a great boy, I hope the personal situations that caused him to have a bad time will settle down. Football is the least of it. Let’s hope he is well, let’s hope he continues like this.”
