‘He’s a Tottenham player’ – Pundit claims this midfielder would fit in at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to strengthen their midfield this season, especially after losing Mousa Dembele to the Chinese Super League in January.

Spurs may also wave goodbye to some other midfield talent in the summer, with Victor Wanyama and Christian Eriksen both possible departures.

Having not signed a player since Lucas Moura back in January 2018, Levy and Pochettino will surely be spending a penny or two come the end of this season.

One player who has been on the radar for some time is Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, currently on loan at Premier League side Everton.

The Telegraph recently claimed that Pochettino was still keen on the player, and Spurs are willing to pay around £30m to sign him.

Ex-Arsenal player Paul Merson believes that Spurs will jump at the chance to steal him from under the Toffees’ noses, adding that he has had some good games of late and would be a good fit at Tottenham.

Merson said (Sky Sports News – quoted by HITC): “I like him [Gomes]. There is talk of Tottenham coming in for him for £30 million. Again, this is what happens, you have a couple of good games and other teams look at the loan situation and think ‘Oh, he’s only on loan, I’ll take him’. He’s a Tottenham player… He’s a Tottenham player!

“He’s there [Everton] now and if he keeps on getting the confidence, but he does get brought off now and again when he isn’t playing too well. He’s not one of them players who you field the team around. You don’t feel that he’s the star man.”
