‘He’s been brilliant’ – Ex-Arsenal man praises Spurs star for years of service

Aaron Ramsey has praised Ben Davies for his ‘brilliant’ performances for Wales over the years after the Tottenham defender scored his first international goal last week.

In what was their penultimate World Cup qualifier on Saturday, Wales thrashed Belarus 5-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium to put the side in strong contention to make the playoffs.

Davies, 28, who has been a regular in the Wales squad for a number of years now, tallied his first goal for his country in what was 68th appearance for the side.

It came in unconventional circumstances, though, after Davies prodded home Harry Wilson’s corner via his shoulder while challenging for the ball.

Juventus and former Arsenal midfielder Ramsey, who scored twice in the encounter, gave Davies plenty of credit regardless of how his first goal was scored, saying the Spurs defender has deserved the feat for a while now.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Ramsey said: “Full credit to him. He has been brilliant for Wales over the years and he deserved that.”

Davies has been a steady player for Wales for a good number of years now, but typically is not known for his abilities going forward.

Members of the squad seem pleased that he has managed to grab his first goal, which says a lot about how valued he is to the team.
