“He’s been terrific for us this season”

Harry Redknapp praised Tom Huddlestone for his display in the heart of the Tottenham defence in the 5-0 win against Burnley.

Huddlestone, who is more accustomed to a midfield role had to line up in defence last weekend due to Ledley King’s hamstring injury.

“I thought Tom was tremendous at centre-half,” Redknapp told the official Spurs site.

“He started out playing at the back as a kid and he’s majestic when he plays there, he just has that air of confidence about him.

“When someone like that is so comfortable on the ball you never panic when he gets it, you think ‘it’s okay, Tom’s got it’ and he reads the game so well as well.

“He’s been terrific for us this season.”

Would you prefer Huddlestone in midfield or defence?

  1. 6-2 Klinnsmann at Wimbledon. I was 24, I went with my uncle.

Now that game was the first time heard the old “OH WHEN THE SPURRRRRRRRRS…” slowed down as is now the Tottenham way.

Stood through the whole game, and we were in the middle of the long end along the pitch, at the back of the stand. AND THERE WAS ONE BLOKE AT THE FRONT, WHO TURNED ROUND TO LOOK UP AT THE CROWD – and I swear he CONDUCTED (as in Royal Albert Hall, moving arms up and down) 5,000 TOTTENHAM supporters (we took 9000 away, but there were five in that stand) to sing that song slowly.

  2. Did he say TERRIFIC, and we sure it wasn’t T’RIFFIC :-D

Yeah, t’riffic, brng yer boots daaaan, and oill get yus a game, t’riffic :-D

In ‘Arry we trust, kinda COYS

  3. This lad should be with the England squad for the few times he has played in defence 7 or eight maybe more he has never bean on the losing side terrific is tackling still needs to improve but that will come if Harry decides to play him there to have a centre half with Toms skill is very rare and at 6ft3 even rarer .He doe sent just hoof the ball up field but runs it out and picks is runners for a quick break to have a creative player at the back gives spurs that little bit extra in attack .This would be my eleven at Bolton .GOMES CORLUKA HUDDLESTONE DAWSON BASSONG LENNON PALACIOS KRANJCAR KEANE DEFOE CROUCH .

  4. Tom should be a holding midfielder. That requires excellent reading of the game, defensive ability, passing ability and a good eye for opportunity. He has all those in spades. I think he’ll be an England player for years.

  5. I agree with you there Davspurs,it looks wonderful to watch Tom bringing the ball out of defence and turning it into attack with a great pass.

Maybe that’s one way we could accommodate both Tom and Carrick in the same side, what do you think?

  6. bolton game
    naughton dawson bassong BAE
    lennon palacios huddlestone gio

  7. THudd always has been a defensive midfielder at the Lane (gawd ‘elp us). He started his career at Derby as a Centre-Half. Stuart Pearce has played him as an attacking midfielder for England Under-21s, but healways looks isolated, and makes rash challenges in an effort to get into the game.
DavSpur – are you serious: are you aware that team selection doesn’t actually include a left-back? Is that because you think BAE has been a bad boy, or do you just think team selection is about shoeing in the 11 players that you think are the best, in whatever position?
