‘He’s devastating’ – What Conte said about Harry Kane before he joined Spurs

Antonio Conte is the latest manager to be tasked with turning Tottenham’s fortunes around, and he will have plenty of firepower going forward to do that.

The Italian was confirmed as the club’s replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo on Tuesday, and oversaw his first training session as Spurs boss on the same day.

Conte inherits a squad sitting eighth in the Premier League and will be looking to rebound after back-to-back defeats against West Ham and Manchester United.

He is expected to give things a shakeup as he will implement his own methods, formations and tactics and will likely deploy a forward tandem of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son to spearhead his changes.

However, Conte will also have the challenge of turning around Kane’s season, who has struggled to make an impact so far and sits on just one Premier League goal.

But, the former Chelsea boss will no doubt be relishing the task of working with the 28-year-old, after previously commenting on his performances for England at Euro 2020.

While working as a pundit, Conte was extremely complimentary of Kane, praising the Three Lions captain’s ability and instinct at points during the tournament.

He said (via Evening Standard): “Many praise Harry Kane for his ability to go get the ball and play with the team, such as with the equaliser against Denmark.

“Of course, he’s good at that too, but it’s in the box where he’s clinical and as a coach, I would always keep him in there because he’s devastating.”

Conte’s arrival will hopefully reignite Spurs’ season, which is usually fairly reliant on Kane’s performances. With a new formation and structure, this should get Kane more involved in games and back to having his usual influence on the team.
