‘He’s going to be a phenomenon’ – Striker on Tottenham’s radar compared to Drogba

Former Ligue 1 goalkeeper, Nicolas Penneteau, has insisted that Tottenham target, Victor Oshimen, has a similar profile to a legendary Chelsea striker.

Osimhen has netted 18 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions for Lille this season (transfermarkt).

He was also one of the strikers who was reported to be on Tottenham’s radar during the January transfer window (Sky Sports) but the North Londoners ended their search empty-handed.

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to be tracking the 21-year-old (Le10Sport) while Manchester United are reportedly interested in his services (Le 10 via Inside Football).

French outlet, Le Quotidien du Foot, claims that Lille could demand as much as €100 million (£89m) for the striker’s services this summer.

Penneteau has no doubts that the Nigerian international is destined for a career at the top.

Speaking about Oshimen, the Sporting Charleroi number one told Voix du Nord (as relayed by TBR Football): “I’m sure he’s going to be a phenomenon. I’d compare him to Didier Drogba.

“He really makes me think of him. He has the same profile. He can do everything and he’s phenomenally powerful.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I don’t expect us to spend big on any player this summer. It is clear that the financial downturn as a result of the coronavirus shutdown is going to have an impact on the transfer market. However, Ligue 1 clubs are likely to be affected much worse than the Premier League clubs. The likes of Lille might thus be forced to sell their stars on a lower valuation just to survive.
