‘He’s really matured’ – Manager showers on-loan Spurs starlet with praise

MK Dons manager Liam Manning has lavished praise on Troy Parrott’s recent performances, insisting that he is not concerned about the striker’s lack of goals.

Parrott has shown over the past few weeks just why he is so highly thought of at Spurs, with the 20-year-old displaying his creativity while operating as a number ten for the Dons.

The Tottenham academy starlet is playing his part in a promotion push, with his team three points off the automatic places with 13 games of the season left.

The striker set up Connor Wickham’s winner in the Dons’ 2-1 win away at Sunderland last weekend, which was his fifth assist of the season to go with the four goals he has netted (Transfermarkt).

However, Parrott has not found the back of the net since the EFL Trophy defeat at home to Aston Villa’s Under-21’s back in October.

Manning has insisted that the striker’s lack of goals is not a concern, given his contribution to the side over recent months.

The MK Dons boss told the club’s official website: “(Troy) showed some moments of real quality today to contribute to the goals. Troy wants to score goals, obviously, as any attacking player does.

“But, I think he’s really matured in terms of the work he puts in out of possession and the honesty to track back and compete. If he keeps doing that, then the goals will come, I’ve got no worries about that.”

One can certainly see why some people were drawing comparisons between Kane and Parrott. Despite being a talented goalscorer, like Kane, the 20-year-old also seems to possess excellent technique and an eye for a pass.

Like the England captain, the Republic of Ireland international might also be a late bloomer and he has shown this season that he is worth persevering with.
